“Hopkins Today” Wednesday, April 29, webcast

The city of Hopkins has received about $40,000 in grants for new police equipment from the U.S. Department of Justice.
Seventeen cities in Hennepin County have received the Justice istance Grants. In Hopkins, the money will go towards a digital audio-video recording system for interview rooms and squad cars.

In an effort to address a $20-million cut in state aid to the county, the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners has approved a recommendation that all county employees voluntarily take special leave without pay during 2009, with a goal of 32 hours on average for every employee.
The county hopes to achieve an estimated $4.5 million in savings with the voluntary program. Those savings would be combined with $15.2 million in other cuts that have been made to address the deficit.

Hopkins High School student Ethan Lang was chosen as a recipient of a Minnesota School Boards ociation Student School Board Member Scholarship.
The $3,000 scholarship will be awarded to Lang by MSBA staff at the May 21 Hopkins School Board meeting.
Lang is one of only two students in the state to receive the award. Kendra Lynn of Cambridge-Isanti was the other winner.
